<p class="Paragraph"><help:to-be-embedded Eid="zn"><help:help-text value="visible">This is where you find functions for editing fonts, typeface, font size, language and color.</help:help-text></help:to-be-embedded></p>
<p class="Paragraph">If the cursor is within a word, the function will be applied to the whole word. If an area of text has been selected, the function will be applied to the whole passage. If there is no selection, the new function will start when new text is entered starting from the cursor position.</p>

<p class="Paragraph">You will see the following fields:</p>

<p class="P2">Western text font - this is where you define the settings for western text, e.g. Latin character sets.</p>

<p class="P2">Asian text font - this is where you define the settings for Asian text, e.g. Chinese, Japanese and Korean character sets.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Here you can enter or select the name of the desired font.</help:help-text></p>
<p class="Paragraph"><a name="schriftstiltext"/><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This is where you enter or select a typeface.</help:help-text><a name="ende"/></p>
<p class="Paragraph">Alternatively, you can also use the icons on the object bar.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This is where you can enter or select a font size.</help:help-text> For scalable fonts, you can also enter interval sizes.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:key-word value="font size; relative changes" tag="kw65740_9" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/>When editing Styles derived from other Styles, you can enter a new font size. Percent values (e.g. 150% or 50%) are permitted as well as point values (e.g. -2pt or +5pt).</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">This is where you define the language used for spellchecking.</help:help-text> <help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CALC">This is only available under <span class="T1">Format - Cells - Numbers</span>, not (with text objects) under <span class="T1">Format - Character - Font</span>.</help:case></help:switch> The language modules installed in your <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> have a check mark next to them.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Select the color for the character.</help:help-text> <help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="WRITER">If in <help:link Id="66280"><span class="T1">Tools - Options - Text document - Print</span></help:link> the <span class="T1">Print black </span><text:s text:c="" xmlns:text="http://openoffice.org/2000/text"/>field is marked, color changes to the text will not be taken into account when printing.</help:case></help:switch> If the system color setting is selected as font color, then select the <span class="T1">Automatic</span> entry.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If you want to define your own colors, close the dialog and in <help:link Id="66226" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><span class="T1">Tools - Options - <help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> - Colors</span></help:link> select a color variation from the Color table. Edit these, give them a new name and click <span class="T1">Add</span>. Close the color dialog and then restart the Character dialog. At the end of the <span class="T1">Color</span> combo box you can now select your new color.</p>

<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-id value="SID_ATTR_CHAR_COLOR" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/><help:help-id value="SID_ATTR_CHAR_COLOR2" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"/><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="CHART"/><help:default><a name="textfarbe"/><help:to-be-embedded Eid="textfarbe"><help:help-text value="visible">A long-click on the symbol opens a floating toolbar on which you can select a text color. A short-click assigns the current color selection to the selected text or activates the fill format icon.</help:help-text></help:to-be-embedded></help:default></help:switch></p>
<p class="Paragraph">If the watering can icon is activated, a right-click anywhere in the document undoes the last watering can action. Be careful not to accidentally right-click and thus undo actions you want to keep.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">If when starting <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> an error message appears stating that certain character sets cannot be found, and if a <help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> font is involved, you can remedy this using the Setup in the Repair mode.</p>
